Held last Monday, February 15, the small gathering consisted of engineers and ACE‘s administrators. A local priest led a prayer to bless the development then the topping in was executed.

While some of you might have heard of the term “topping out” ceremony, a “topping in” ceremony is its opposite. A topping-in ceremony is a little known tradition during construction where the first steel pillar is erected. The union of the steel member with the concrete signifies the building’s official construction.

At the end of construction, the topping out ceremony should also be held in respect to the topping in ceremony. Topping out or topping off is a deep-rooted Scandinavian religious rite to pay respects to spirits during construction.
